Eric is a playable Knight in the games Shining Force Gaiden II and Shining Force CD.

Background[]

Eric is a young Cypress guard of aristocratic lineage. Luke and Jaha have been his inseparable companions since before Shining Force Gaiden II, though they seem to spend much of their time together fighting with each other.

Eric is light-skinned with a brown body and light brown hair and purple-ish eyes.

Personality[]

Eric is perpetually surly and arrogant, convinced that his royal ancestry makes him superior to most people. Sadly, his pride fails to steer him clear of irresponsible behavior. Instead, he blinds himself to his own wrongdoings and failings rather than face up to the fact that his royal blood doesn't endow him with true nobility. Despite his long string of mischievous antics, he becomes genuinely offended when Mayfair comments that he is in the habit of goofing off. However, Eric's pride does drive him to vigorous training in the pursuit of excellence on the battlefield.

Eric is a devoted friend, as evidenced by how eloquently he declares his friendship to Deanna. He also seems to have a curious desire to impress Dawn, who disapproves of his irresponsible behavior.

Strategy[]

Knights are typically front-liners, able to rush the enemy and both give and take attacks. Eric does not fit this description. Though he starts with stats that are the same as Apis's and better than Dawn's, his Defense increases at an incredibly sluggish rate. When he reaches level 5 it suddenly rockets up until he's as durable as the other knights, only to slow to a crawl again once he promotes. For the bulk of the game his Defense is comparable to the Mages of the group.

Eric is still a usable Knight; his HP is good, and his Attack is at least higher than Dawn's. Indeed, if you are playing Shining Force CD and plan on tackling Book 4, you'll have to use him. However, you should not put him on the front lines with the other knights. Keep him in the back row, using his 7 Mov(and if necessary, the added range of his spears) to reach the enemy with his attacks. Eric can dish out damage, but it only takes a few melee hits to send him packing, so take care.
