Yuma Ilburn (ユーマ・イルバーン Yūma Irubān, also know as Yuma Irvan) is the leading protagonist of Shining Resonance. When in his human form he goes by the name of Yuma Ilburn. Yuma is a young man troubled by his own fate. He is the Successor of the Shining Dragon.

Appearance[]
In his human form, Yuma has short, purple hair which is both beautiful and soft as noted by Sonia. He wears a black choker with a golden lock pendant, a teal jacket adorned with belts attached on it, a long, white shirt and sleek, black pants with belts attached on it.
In his dragon form, Yuma is initially golden in appearance, with his weapon Vandelhorn embedded on his forehead. In Chapter 4, Excella's powers as a Diva Magica caused the Shining Dragon's power to evolve, changing Yuma's form from rusty gold to platinum silver with four wings instead of two. When Yuma unleashes the Shining Dragon's full power, its appearance is similar to Yuma's second form but Vandelhorn becomes more ornate and full rainbow shines behind him.
Personality[]
Likely because he’s lived away from common customs, he tends to be passive and leaves the decision making to others. When he transforms, he becomes the legendary, but inexperienced, dragon—Shining Dragon Progress Body.[1]
In spite of his lack of confidence early on in the story, Yuma slowly grows more courageous later on to the point that he learns to work to harness the Shining Dragon's power.
While bonding with the other characters, many of them have noted that Yuma as a good presence to be around (being the heart of the group). He is noted to be both selfless and kind as the main reason he is afraid of the shining dragons power is of losing control of it and hurting people, and his desire to work hard to protect the people of Astoria.
Story[]
Chapter 1: Overture in the Moonlight[]
Yuma is found in a locked room by Sonia Blanche. They escape the area and are confronted by Excela Noa Aura and her dragon companion. Using the power of her music to strengthen the dragon, Excela engages the duo in battle. Suddenly, Kirika Towa Alma intervenes in their fight with her own music and the newly formed trio confront Excela's dragon. After overpowering the dragon in battle, Excela calls upon two other dragons to serve her will. Grasping with a voice in his head, Yuma transforms into the legendary Shining Dragon, and escapes the location with Sonia and Kirika in tow.
Gameplay[]
In battle, Yuma occupies the swordsman class and fights with the Dragon Roar Blade Vanderhorn, which is described to be a partial manifestation of his latent power. Additionally, while he can revert to his dragon form at any time using the Vanderhorn as a catalyst, as we wrote previously, he can only do so in a “half-awakened state” in his Progress Body form, meaning that if he uses his powers too much, he’ll go out of control and go on a rampage. Although in the latter half of the story, Yuma can access the Shining Dragon's awakened form, which has stronger attacks (this form does not cause the player to lose control at all, but still drains MP).
Trivia[]
- Aside from being the main protagonist, Yuma also serves as a link to the player and the Shining Resonance Refrain world.
- Yuma can choose many romantic options, while bonding with his female teammates (Sonia, Kirika, Rinna, Marion, or Excella (Refrain mode only)). Yuma can also bond with Agnum, Lestin, and Jinas (Refrain mode only) (although there are no homosexuality options at all and was instead toned down to a strong friendship).
- His choker was a gift and momento from his late mother (Elise), who gave it to him when he was young to protect him from the dragon within. It was to seal most of the Shining Dragon's power inside him.
